Are Vitamins Worth Taking?

Last summer I posted a blog about vitamins (I’m not a fan) and their role as nutrient supplements and replacements.

A recent New York Times article took a close look at the subject as well, questioning vitamins’ effectiveness: “In the past few years, several high-quality studies have failed to show that extra vitamins, at least in pill form, help prevent chronic disease or prolong life.”

As many experts believe, a well-balanced diet is the best prevention and medicine.

While I understand your position, some people do not absorb vitamins properly. No matter how well we eat, we still cannot get our vitamin levels to a healthy point. Since we absorb a certain percentage of the vitamins we take in, we need to increase the total amount of each vitamin we ingest. Vitamins are helpful. Not to everyone, of course, I'm definitely against daily multivitamins for everyone, but to those of us who have genetic issues that cause us not to absorb vitamins, supplements are incredibly helpful in keeping us alive and well.
